Pure Yoga for a Cause
+
Last Sunday afternoon, I attended the Pure for a Cause event at Pure Yoga to benefit the Lung Cancer Research Foundation in support of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Members and Non-Members were invited to participate in a day of open classes in exchange for donations to the Foundation.Â
I joined at least seventy participants for Marco Rojas’ Vinyasa class. Luckily, I had some advance warning from my personal Pure Yoga Advisor (and sister), Maritza Gonzalez, that Marco’s classes were challenging, but one of the most popular. I have taken a few yoga classes, but when an instructor begins a session by inquiring if there are any yoga virgins in the class, I inevitably raise my hand.
As I faltered through several poses, Marco calmly made his was way around the room with soothing, yet firm, directives to “focus”, “stay in the now”, and “let go of unnecessary tension”. His encouragements did help... I know I have child’s pose down.
At the conclusion of the class, my sister introduced me to Margaux Lushing, Pure’s Program Coordinator. Margaux proudly recounted Pure’s commitment to the community and its’ causes. She told me Pure partnered with the Lung Cancer Research Foundation last November. Last month, Pure held a day of open classes in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Margaux also mentioned that next month, Pure would be opening its Upper West Side location. The grand opening will follow in January, stay tuned!
In addition to the full menu of classes, Yogis received complimentary nutrition consultations and smoothie samples provided by Katie Graham Holistic Health & Nutrition Counseling, and a trunk show featuring Buddha Babe bags. These roomy carry-all bags are amazing. They come with specialized compartments for yoga mats and have plenty of room for a change of clothes, sneakers, laptop and more…
Attendees enjoyed gift bags from Pure Yoga filled with goodies such as: Solixir sparkling botanical beverages, and coupons for Energy Kitchen and MixMyGranola- custom granola blends for trail-mix junkies looking for that perfect “all-faves-in-one blend”, as recently featured The Zoe Report.
The following morning, I could feel the burn in muscles I didn’t even know I had. However, I was pleasantly surprised how rejuvenated I seemed. I think my sample of MixMyGranola custom blend had something to do with it. Besides… do good, feel good.
