Hamptons Weekend Guide
+
100 degree weather can be quite the patience tester. The static summer heat trapped by buildings and concrete can get a little claustrophobic. Slowly but surely the desire to leave the city turns from a gentle "i'd like to get out" to a "i have to get out..now". Nothing against city living, but a little separation is a good thing, healthy even. Gives us a chance to miss something and in turn appreciate it even more. So, bid the city adieu (for a weekend) and enjoy some much needed R & R in the Hamptons. Below is a quick glance of things to do and enjoy.

Shopping:
Jennifer Miller Boutique (check out the goods pictured right) does not skimp on the glam factor. With a beautiful collection of exclusive fine jewelry as well as economical friendly gems, it is no wonder that Jennifer Miller has collaborated with some of the most well respected designers in the world. Featured in publications such as W, Vogue, People Style Watch, and Real Simple magazines to name a few, Jennifer Miller's eclectic mix of alluring pieces definitely has something for everyone. Stop by and take a gander. Jennifer Miller. 28 Jobs Lane. Southhampton NY. (T) 631-283-9061.
Biba Boutique is a one stop shopping oasis to help stock up on all this season's summer essentials. Katy Perry, Paris Hilton, and Real Housewives of New York chickies Kelly Killoren Bensimon and Jill Zarin are fans. Biba Boutique. 40 Hill Southhampton NY. (T) 631-259-2762.
Blue & Cream is a popular men and women's clothing store that has developed quite the dedicated following. The clothing racks are stocked with an impressive collection of designers–Phillip Lim, Cynthia Vincent, Rag & Bone, Vena Cava, Halston Heritage, and Alexander Wang is just a tid bit of the goodies that Blue & Cream provide. Whether you need something for daytime fun or a night out on the scene, you can find either or both at this Hamptons favorite. Blue & Creame. 60 On the Circle. East Hampton NY. (T) 631-329-1392.
Eating:

Philippe Chow (pictured above) is a New York favorite. So when the famous chinese eatery opened last summer in East Hampton, many were pleased as punch. For an incredible feast, slither into one of their sleek red booths and order up something good. Singer Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson have been spotted getting their chow on. Philippe Chow. 44 Three Mile Harbor Rd. East Hampton NY. (T) 631-907-0250.
Popular French Bistro Pierre's specializes in serving up local seafood to summer vacationers. Modeled after a bistro one might come across in St. Barth's, this restaurant favorite is both cozy and intimate. Pierre's. 2468 Main Street. Bridgehampton NY. (T) 631-537-5110.
For delicious Japanese food, look no further than Sen. Touted as one of the best sushi and sashimi places on the East End, you'll find a delectable menu of fresh fish and an alluring cocktail list. Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos have even stopped by for a nosh. Sen. 23 Main Street. Sag Harbor NY. (T) 631-725-1774.

Beaches:
Main Beach (pictured) in East Hampton is a truly a sight to be seen. Impeccably clean white sandy beaches await those who are patient enough to deal with the parking situation. If possible, I suggest getting dropped off to avoid any unforeseen headaches. Once you make it to the beach, a sandy sanctuary awaits. Truly a summer relaxation spot worth going to. Main Beach. Ocean Ave. East Hampton NY. (T) 631-324-4150.
Coopers Beach in Southhampton is another stunner with gorgeous views of the Atlantic and miles of sandy beach and water. Highly regarded as one of the top ten beaches in the United States, historical mansions and other architectural delights are viewable from the beach. There are pavilions for snacks and restroom/shower facilities available for use. Warning, this is yet another potential parking headache. So to avoid paying to park, or lack of space, if possible, ride a bike from town or hitch a ride from a friend for easier access. Coopers Beach. 268 Meadow Ln. (T) 631-283-0247

Rolling Stone & Music Unites: In Tune Unplugged Concert Series
+
Summer weather calls for rooftop events and one of my favorite city rooftops is the penthouse of the Cooper Square Hotel where Rolling Stone & Music Unites kicked off the In Tune Unplugged Concert Series. You might remember the one-year anniversary of Music Unites and their main initiative focused on the Music Unites Youth Choir which is dedicated to bringing music education to young people in underfunded school programs.
The evening started with the trendy attendees mingling whilst enjoying the magnificent view. Drinks were provided by Absolut Vodka who introduced their newest liquor Absolut Brooklyn (a limited edition flavor co-created by famed filmmaker Spike Lee) was an absolute hit. The hip background tunes spun by model turned DJ, Alexandra Richards, definitely kept the party going and the well dressed thoroughly entertained.
Everyone anxiously awaited the Fiery Furnaces' rocking music set. The event's intimate ambiance created a friendly vibe which was re-confirmed by singer Eleanor Friedberger. The songstress invited the crowd to simultaneously chat and mingle amongst one another during their performance.
FYI: Siblings Eleanor and Matthew formed indie rock band The Fiery Furnaces back in 2000, and are about to start recording their 10th album.
The Cooper Square Hotel also acted as a sponsor to the event along aforementioned Absolut Vodka and Perry Ellis. Fragrances from the iconic American sportswear label provided plenty of samples for guests to enjoy in the posh step and repeat green room.

+Cleanse with Kaeng Raeng: Jump-Start Your Bikini Bod
+
When my go-to site for all healthy and fitness lifestyle matters wrote about the new all natural cleanse, Kaeng Raeng, I instantly wanted to give it a try. A cleanse-virgin prior to Kaeng Raeng I was on the lookout for a simple, yet efficient, cleanse to purge my body after attending one too many events. Founder of Kaeng Raeng, Lindsay Reinsmith directed me to the 3-day beginner cleanse- they also offer a veteran and a master level of cleanse both available in 3 to 6 days package. All of Kaeng Raeng natural cleanses package are USA made, vegan, gluten, dairy and caffeine free. Best of all it is a sustainable product, which perfectly coincides with the timing of my eco-lifestyle transition.
My excitement was slightly deterred when I poured my first package into water, obtaining a lumpy mix. It took me several hours of sitting at my desk to drink my breakfast dose. By the time I finished it, it was lunchtime and time to start a new one right away.
On a positive note, one of the things I enjoyed about the cleanse is that it allows for raw vegetables. So I had some baby carrots while sitting with coworkers for lunch, then brought my lunch mix (barely started) back to my desk. I thought I would have been hungry and cranky by that time, but not at all. However, on my way home I wanted to stop into every shop that would sell me some naughty treats- I guess it was just a temporary, yet classical, case of I-want-what-I-am not supposed-to-have.
In the evening, I had decided I could no longer go for the water/cleanse only mix. I mixed my evening package with soy milk and even though it was not bad at all, I still decided to dig out my blender and try some of their beginner recipes. All blender mixes were so yummy, that I concocted a different one at every meal for the rest of the cleanse. As the days went by, I felt gradually better in my own skin. My face cleared and I had a healthy glow that no one had seen on me in the longest time.
Overall, this was a great experience and I feel fantastic. I did have a lack of energy for the first couple of days, but that subsided and I began to feel lighter and more energetic than ever. I definitely advise it to anyone who feels that their bad eating habits have taken a toll on their system. The cleanse is suggested to be a great way to jump-start a diet and after trying it, I would absolutely vouch for it- as it naturally led to smarter eating choices and the desire to feel healthy.

An Emotional Opening Day: Yankee Stadium 2010
+
Tuesday, April 13th: Opening Day at Yankee Stadium: Award Ceremony and Yankees v. Angels.
The day began with a trip on the 4 train, dropping my Father and I off on 161st St. As we stepped out onto the platform, we viewed the remains of the House That Babe Ruth Built, which was pretty surreal and emotional. However, we would soon realize that this was a very emotional Opening Day for all Yankee Fans.
We made a pit stop in the Yankee Museum, where my Dad proceeded to regale me with tales of his trips to Yankee Stadium in the 50's, with greats on the field such as, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantel, Whitey Ford and Elston Howard.
On our way to our seats, cheers circulated the stadium when Yogi and Whitey took the field, awards were announced, and the Yanks received their World Series Championship rings and raised their 27th Championship Flag.
But here's where the 1st wave of goosebumps and pride swept the stadium. The crowd roared with cheer when returning World Series MVP Hideki Matsui (now on the Angels) ran out to receive his ring. His former Yankee teammates punked him with a fake ring, before enveloping him in a mass hug and presenting him with the real deal.
It was really something to see the love for a former teammate… Not only from the Yanks, but also the fans- who gave Matsui a standing ovation as he stepped up to the plate for the 1st time. Just another example of how New Yorkers rock, respect, and honor.
After Kristin Chenoworth sang the Star Spangled Banner, Bernie Williams bounced the ceremonial first pitch to the plate… by no surprise to most fans.
Then the game began. Andy Pettitte hurled six scoreless innings, throwing over 100 pitches by the 6th. Nick Johnson and Derek Jeter went deep and Mariano Rivera slammed the door on the Angels by inducing a popout by Matsui.
Final score: 7-5.

Sprung at Crash Mansion: James Kinney Wows NYC
+Friday, April 9th: Crash Mansion hosted the 1st of a new series of events- SPRUNG, featuring James Kinney and special guests, Jonny Rose, NSR and DJ Turbz. Sprung drew in a vibrant crowd, ready to get down and bring back the underground talent of the Bowery.
Opening act, the self-indulgent and well-dressed Jonny Rose, had a crew of fans signing along to the electric-pop lyrics, made wonder what was in store for the rest of the evening.
However, the following artist stomped it. Emcee, NSR (a half-Jewish kid from the Upper West Side, rockin' docksiders), brought wit, energy, and a stage presence enhanced by the killer turntable master- DJ Turbz, and a beat riffing drummer. This wunderkind trio had the crowd dancing and laughing with tracks like, "Adrien Brody" and "Cream Cheese, Butter, and Jelly". Download NSR's latest release, The Darling Limited, HERE.
Then, a little past midnight, James Kinney took the stage by storm. Backed by a full band including horns, keyboard and drums, Mr. Kinney exuded panache and a golden voice that charmed his innovative style. The Austin native struck me as a little bit Marvin Gaye, a touch of Stevie Wonder, a pinch of Common, a dash of John Legend, and a whole lotta WOW.
It's no wonder this rising star has shared the spotlight with industry giants like- The Roots, Ben Taylor, DJ Logic and John Legend. Carly Simon has described James’ stage presence as “incredible” and James Cullem referred to Kinney as “the best freestyle artist [he’s] heard in ten years.” Um, yea... not only should NYC watch out, but Kinney is about to melt the faces off the music industry.
Not only did Sprung turn out to rock my roll, portions of the door proceeds went to benefit Goddard Riverside Community Center and featured fashion sponsor, Triple L. Society. Charity, rock, and fashion... def my kind of night.

The Media Socials: Obliterati Takes on San Francisco
+
Thursday, April 8th: Last night a group of East Coast and West Coast new Media Socials gathered at Zeitgeist in San Francisco for Obliterati West, the West Coast edition of the monthly Obliterati party which Nick McGlynn of Random Night Out runs with some help from Peter Feld in NYC.
Obliterati is the epic monthly get-together that's been bringing together New York's friendliest techies and bloggers, "...and the people who love them too much...".
Now, Obliterati has gone bi-coastal to the techtrendster central- San Francisco. Sponsored by Citysearch and Random Night Out, Obliterati brought Northern California's most glittering, self-obliterating literati together for a night of media mayhem.
Ironically, despite the cutting-edge nature of the guests, photos were prohibited. Perhaps there is some new top secret social media app about to launch...
SEEN: CNET's social media reporter Caroline McCarthy, who co-hosted; a crew from Digg including Annika; Amy Widdowson of NileGuide; Tim Ware of Hyperarts, an Oakland-based web strategy company; Courtney Bird, who's just moved to SF to work for Brian Solis; Alexia Tsotsis, web editor of SF Weekly; Megan McCarthy of Techmeme; Neha Tiwari of Justin.TV, and artist David Houston.
St. Patrick's with Patrick McMullan
+
Everybody who's anyone of the fashionable and art set, always anticipate Patrick McMullan's St. Paddy Day renown annual celebration.
This year, guests were welcomed at Santos Party House by green-clad creatures and offerings of Energy Arizona tea shots as Mr. McMullan snapped pictures of the first few attendees.
Once inside, sexy boy-boy dancers were on podium display, tossing out green bead necklaces. As expected, a lot of Mr. McMullan's photogs were in attendance- some capturing the madness and while some simply enjoying the fabulousness.
The crowd mingled whilst indulging in the two hour long open bar of Belvedere. However, the real party seemed to be happening outside with Mr. McMullan and his uber-hip friends and fans.
