The Hamptons
Robin Ross: You Are On The List
+
A few weeks ago, I was trying my luck at a blind date. I figured if someone wants to get to know me, why not accompany me to an event? I'm not sure if it was the brightest idea having someone meet me at Hearst Tower for an Esquire Magazine celebration, as if 1st dates aren't overwhelming enough. I was thankful to cut the tension when I bumped into Justine McCarthy from Simply Chic PR. When my date inquired, "So, who are all these people and how did they get invited?" Justine promptly introduced us to Robin Ross of YOUAREONTHELIST.com.
SBS Readers- Here is the WWW.:
Scene B Seen: Robin, you are the founder of YOUAREONTHELIST.com, when and why did you start this site to provide insider access to some of the most exclusive events in NYC and LA?
Robin Ross: Because why shouldn’t everyone experience the best events that are out there?! I am spoiled and have been to all the best events from Sundance to the Academy Awards to backstage at Fashion Week etc., as well as, shopping with designers at their showrooms and getting insider pricing at hotels and spas... So, I wanted to bring that to those who want it and can afford it, but do not know how to do it!
SBS: So, how does it work?
RR: Well we have an annual membership for the Invitation Only list for $500. Then we send out invites and after you RSVP, we get you on the list.
SBS: What’s the difference between being on The List and Invitation Only List?
RR: The List is a complimentary service, where you receive invites to open events, our e-list newsletter and clipboard photos. The more exclusive or sought after events are only available to our Invitation Only List members. The Invitation Only List membership is $500 a year for access to all the exclusive events in NYC and beyond. Plus insider pricing on spas, hotels, fashion etc. You receive save the dates about upcoming events and on-site assistance at all the events to guarantee entry. Also for Fashion Week, only Invitation Only List members have access to the events- unless you buy one of our Fashion Week Packages. Privileges are listed on www.youareonthelist.com/invite_only
SBS: Speaking of... Have any hot parties lined up for Fashion Week?
RR: Yes of course! Check out the entire fashion calendar- we have access to it all. We are offering our YOUAREONTHELIST.com Fashion Week Insider Pass, which get you access to some shows at Bryant Park and other venues, after parties, a membership to YOUAREONTHELIST.com, as well as, amazing gift bags. We also have other surprises with a portion going to charity for the arts. We are only offering 15 of these and we are not taking new memberships during fashion week. The only way to be a member and attend the shows is to purchase the package. You can visit www.youareonthelist.com/dates or email us at events@youareonthelist.com for details.
SBS: That sounds like a stellar deal! I'm so curious what the parties are going to be like considering this is the So Long Bryant Park Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Do you think the NYC Scene has changed in the past few years?
RR: OMG! Yes and NO!
SBS: Ha! How?
RR: I grew up in NYC on the Upper East Side, where going out at night to clubs bars like Odeon, Studio 54, Xenon, and Dorian’s, was just like going to the movies or the mall. We always got in and we always knew where to go. They weren’t websites that told you every night what was going on- you were only in the know or you weren’t. Nowadays, the really exclusive events are few and far between. So we try to have access to those and the more publicized events. What's funny is that some of the same venues are still popular like Dorian’s. Every Tuesday, it's mobbed with young hip professional for their karaoke night.
SBS: Seriously? I suppose Karaoke is a healthy and cheaper alternative... With the economic state of affairs this past year, there’s been an influx of independent promoters trying to fill clubs via email lists and Facebook, should guests be wary of such things?
RR: Yes, you should... but not all promoters are bad or shady. I see a lot of the reputable promoters on Facebook as it has become the new marketplace to advertise and promote your business, and nightlife is no different. YOUAREONTHELIST.com is all things social media! Facebook page and twitter...
SBS: So, what separates YOUAREONTHELIST.com from those types of promoters?
RR: I am not a promoter, not that’s there is anything wrong with that, but we are a service that provides access to events and experiences in NYC and beyond. We do not work for the venues, clubs, or restaurants. We work for our members, to provide them with experiences they would never know about or are too busy to find out about and get them access. YOUAREONTHELIST.com is like a best friend who knows everyone and takes you with them.
SBS: Love it! What’s in the future for YOUAREONTHELIST.com?
RR: We are rolling out to other markets YOUAREONTHELIST.com Boston, Chicago, Miami, SF... We are excited to be launching YOUAREONTHELIST.com KIDS. So that kids can be on the list too!!
SBS: A kids list? That rocks. How fun is that?!
RR: Plus in NYC we will be creating YOUAREONTHELIST.com pop-up lounges at marquee events in NYC and this summer in the Hamptons. So- SBS Readers will have to see where we will pop-up next!

Labor Day Weekend in the Hamptons, Obviously
+As Scene B Seen rounded out this fantastic East End summer, we decided to go out with a bang. I think we covered every facet that encompasses The Hamptons experience: BBQs to Midnight Swims, raunchy Day & Night dancing to Shelter Island's Sunset Beach and Andre Balazs' Hotel chillaxing, scenic drives past vineyards to marinas, a Ferrari Rally and we even managed to squeeze in an exclusive TV shoot.
Good friends, good wine, and good times.

First Annual Ferrari Hamptons Rally at Georgica
+
Recession scmession.
Held at Georgica Restaurant & Lounge in East Hampton, Nathaniel Christian and Nikki Beach Midtown hosted The First Ferrari Hamptons Rally.
Ferrari owners and VIP guests arrived in the am to showcase their passion and partake in a little brunch prior to cruising in a convoy of an 52 pristine Ferraris, $25 million dollars worth of exotic vehicles.
As a New York native, Mr. Christian was a fan of cabs up until a few years ago when he acquired his first Ferrari, and just like potato chips, you can't have just one. Henceforth, the idea of The First Annual Ferrari Hamptons Rally emerged in efforts to share his fondness with other Ferrari enthusiasts.
One such collector, Eric, opined, "Ferrari Long Island is really good a building a camaraderie, like a cult... it's more of a scene in the Hamptons..."
And Scenic. Drivers took in the sights , driving past breathtaking estates, vineyards, polo fields, marinas, and the ocean, along the 46.2 mile loop through East Hampton, Amagansett, Sag Harbor, Southampton, Water Mill, and back to Georgica. Page Six editor, Richard Johnson, led the inaugural drive through the Hamptons with Mr. Christian as his navigator. According to Mr. Christian, "Richard was an excellent driver!"!!
Apres le randonner, the aficionados joined an invitation only guest list of jet-setters, celebs, socialites, media, and business moguls in a cocktail fete.
"Like a smart man said, 'He who has the most toys when he dies, wins'... but as the really smart man says, 'He who lives with the most toys beforehe dies, wins.'"

Atlantic City and The Chelsea: Next Generation Rat Pack
+
Sure, the past weekend of August was the final week for the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge, but I was so over it. I needed something new and exciting to fascinate my weekend. Therefore, I was absolutely thrilled when I received an invite to stay at The Chelsea in Atlantic City. I jumped at the opportunity to visit the other end of the spectrum. After all, how can I call myself a Jersey Girl if I've never even been to AC?
My girl Sam and I promptly did a little research. The first thing that caught my eye was their MO: Atlantic City, the way it was meant to be. Dine. Unwind. Socialize. Umm... done, done, and done! We were down and couldn't wait.
Finally, the weekend came and we arrived in the am. Walking into the lobby, we felt like we had been transported back in time to AC's heyday. Back to the old school glam of the Rat Pack Era. Clean, well-lit, with a modernized art-deco decor that's absolutely divine. The front desk clerk, Monique, was super friendly, cute, knowledgeable (gave us a bit of hotel accommodations without being salesey or annoying), and efficient- qualities I wish every hotel employee would have.
Also located on the 1st floor; a world-class spa, boutique, gym, and Teplitzky's Coffee Shop (which is open to 4am...).
Monique hooked us up with a corner room on the 18th floor with a view of the ocean. Gorgeous. The room was big, with an oversized bed dressed up in crisp white down blankets and pillows, a flat screen tv and ipod speaker dock (rock on), and a well-stocked "mini" bar... full size wine bottles and assorted bevs in the fridge.
I absolutely adore the decor, which is thematic throughout the entire hotel. Before I get into the fantavulous Fifth Floor deets, I have a little insider scoop for those of you looking to have fun on the cheap.
Although I highly recommend staying in the main tower, The Chelsea also has an Annex, which features smaller rooms for less. Still comfy, connected to the main hotel, and overlooking the salt water pool. The only differences are; the bathroom isn't ginormous and there is limited counter space. For bros looking to crash, it's perfect.
Now to the coolest part. Socializing was a key ingredient while designing The Chelsea. With that in mind, the hotel is filled with nooks of couches and common areas to fulfill that criteria. In addition, being the first non-gaming hotel on the boardwalk since the '60s, they put everything you need to have a killer time on one level, aptly dubbed: Fifth Floor.
A Stephen Starr restaurant- Chelsea Prime, C5- the nightclub, Cabana Club- the stellar pool area, the Game Room- with bar and pool table, a lounge area, and an outside terrace overlooking the beach.
The Cabana Club feels like it came directly out of a glamour Hollywood movie set. All placed conveniently around the pool, there is one huge cabana (available for rent, but usually houses a DJ spinning tracks late afternoon into the evening), several private cabanas with flatscreen tv's, and a slew of lounge chairs and couch areas. Full-service is available to every area (including drinks and yummy food from Teplitzky's).
After lounging poolside all afternoon sipping Hurricane Lemonades and Cakebread Rose, we ordered room service from Teplitzky's before primping for C5. All I will say is: delish.
With several reserved areas available, our crew opted for a couple banquets lining the covered dance floor near the DJ. This primo locale was between the Game Room and the outside bar. FYI: the poolside cabanas are also a choice bottle-service option.
Then it was on! The entire area was filled with a mix of good looking peeps- dancing, chatting, and chilling. Zero pretentiousness, excellent beats, and fab service.
Conclusion: If you're looking to get away and have a great time, head no further then The Chelsea. Promised to never disappoint, the concierge team will go above and beyond to make you feel like you have returned to the golden age of leisure and luxury.
Ellen's Run, HEAT, Steven Klein, and Lindsay Lohan: It's A Family Affair
+
Saturday Night in the Hamptons is always a sure bet for fun, glamour, and drama. We certainly got all three.
The elegant evening began at Steven Klein's gorgeous estate at West Kill Farm for HEAT, a celebration for the new Ellen Hermanson Breast Center Southampton Hospital. The benefit also honored the memory of Annie Toglia.
All the guests donned the theme colors, black, white, and pink, drank Liv Vodka cocktails and local estate wines, while dancing to Dj Donna D'Cruz's beats. After a warm speech by Julie Ratner, Ellen's sister- who graciously and tirelessly and remains committed to Ellen's Run, the one live auction item was up for bid. An opportunity for two guests to enjoy a day on the set of Sex and The City 2 with Kim Cattrall.
As one gentleman was up to $18,000, Ms. Cattrall took auctioneer Patrick Tully's mic and proposed, "If you bid really high, I may just take you to lunch."
The gavel dropped with a $20,000 donation to the Foundation, the gentleman out bid himself from $16,000 - $20,000, and all were delighted. Until later, Mr. Tully revealed that a caller vowed to double the standing offer, and promptly gave his Black Amex number... $40,000.
However, the excitement did not stop there. The crowd slowly dissipated, until a rush of lights began firing, as Ms. Lindsay Lohan entered the tent with dates Adam from MTV's The City, her Brother Michael, and a small crew, headed to the bar. She appeared quite happy, until she made a bee-line to the far corner of tent...
Enter Michael Lohan. Ms. LiLo quickly turned snitty. Who could blame her? Was he stalking her? The whole country knows she doesn't want to talk to him. Did he think she would welcome him with open arms if he followed her to an exclusive event?
Her friends surrounded her, as she sat with her back to the crowd, but Michael sauntered up in his signature camel-ball jeans and knelt down to confront his Daughter. About what, we do not know. All we overheard was, "I didn't, Dad. I didn't."
Little Bro swooped in to relieve the tension, whilst Lindsay got up and headed back to the bar, rightfully in a tizzy, definitely not wanting to be photographed; just wanting to be left alone.
We caught up later with Lindsay at Pink Elephant, sans Papa Lohan. She appeared to be somewhat more relaxed, even introducing herself to yours truly. While the thin blond starlet caught a few smokes, I did not see her drinking any booze.
Conclusion: Hey, Michael Lohan! Back off. Not only did you piss off your Daughter, but you also pissed the guests off. A pleasant night honoring two wonderfully courageous and inspirational woman, as well as the many many women that face the challenges of breast cancer, ended in the remaining guests gossipping about Linsday.

Week Two of Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge: Hamptons Fashion Do's and Don'ts
+
Week two of polo commenced this past Saturday at Blue Star Jets Field, and there were plenty of people to be seen... which gave me plenty to discuss. First and foremost-
Seen: Jon Gosselin, Michael Lohan, Erin Muller, Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen, Jill and Bobby Zarin, Ramona and Mario Singer, Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, and stylist Nolé Marin.
It seems that Reality TV has upped it's street cred, and their cast members have emerged as legit celebrities- while keeping up appearances. From clam bakes to benefits, this new wave of Stars are hitting every exclusive Hamptons scene- VIP. This has given me the perfect opportunity to offer a little East End style etiquette advice... I am a child of the 80's and was given The Official Preppy Handbook as a birthday present at the age of 6.
FYI: Fashion is an crucial element of etiquette.
Fabrics of Choice: Linen, cotton, silk, cashmere/cotton blend, and my fave- seersucker.
Do: Iron your linen before you go out, it is ok if it wrinkles once you're out. Linen top and bottom together. Loose silk tops, flowy silk dresses or pants.
Don't: Linen top and a different fabric bottom. Tight silk top or dress (unsightly perspiration marks). Assume every floral design is "summery".
Footwear: Tennies, flats, espadrilles, wedges, strappy sandals.
Do: Wear your fave flip-flops to the beach.
Don't: Wear flip-flops or stilettos to an outdoor event (including your neighbor's bbq) or while taking a stroll through town.
Now that I have laid out some fundamentals, let's go back to the beginning. Packing. Your first impression is not your beautiful smiling face, it's how you arrive ensemble.
Try and get an idea of your event schedule for the days and evenings, and who all your hosts may be.
Invest in some matching, Hamptons appropriate, luggage. My personal go-to: Ame & Lulu. They carry everything from the weekend duffel to jewelry pouches to racquet and golf head covers (they even have a yoga mat case for you metropolites), and come in a variety of patterns from city prepster to full on green and pink link prep. Ame & Lulu also carries great totes for your day sailing trips or picnics.
The Gracious Guest: Whether your a guest for the weekend or a guest for a party, always arrive with something in hand for the host.
First time weekend or dinner guest, a luscious bouquet (no gratuitous greens or baby's breath please) is always appreciated. Other options- monogrammed guest towels, wine (only if you are certain the host/s drink), fresh fruit basket for brunch guests/dried fruit for dinner guests, or any personalized gift if you know your host/s well- i.e. if your host is an avid golfer and plans on taking you to the course- a unique belt caddy is a charming gift.
On to attire specifics to meet East End elegance. The key: Light and comfortable mixed with a little glam.
Do: Wear sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen. Pair your bikini with a cute cover-up for lunching and walks. Make sure your outfit suits the adventures of the day- better to bring a tote with a change of clothes then to show up at Nick & Toni's in a bikini and flip-flops.
Don't: Wear a hat when it's not sunny. Lube up with suntan oil if you are a guest at someone's house (ruins towels, chairs, and leaves film in the pool).
Do: Google event picts from the prior year to get a sense of style scale. Pair a simple dress with pearls and jewels. Subtly coordinate with your companion (i.e. his tie may be a similar shade of your dress).
Don't: Wear a strapless dress if you have strap tan lines. Layer necklaces and bracelets. Pile on the make-up, less is more.
Do: Be confident in what you are wearing.
Don't: Wear something because you think it'll make you fit in, but otherwise would never be caught wearing (it will have the adverse effect and you will appear out of sorts).
Do: Appreciate where your are and be amiable to everyone.
Don't: Be dismissive to strangers. Take life for granted.
Do: Have fun and surround yourself with good people.
Don't: Drink and drive. Lilybug Scooters will happily scoot your intoxicated self home.

Social Life Magazine 4th of July: Lifestyles of the Fun and Fabulous With Kellan Lutz
+
Fourth of July is not only my fave holiday, it also equates house hoppin' in the Hamptons. So where better to start my evening of sparkling adventures then at the Social Life Estate in Water Mill for the Social Life Magazine dual celebration of Independence Day and the July Issue launch, hosted by its' cover model, Kellan Lutz and Publisher, Justin Mitchell. Though co-cover model Lydia Hearst was slated to co-host the soiree, she was a no-show to the privé event. Not to fret my fabulous readers, the eve produced exclusive guests and some delicious threads bedecked on the next generation of the Hamptons' jet-setters, taste-makers, and socialites.
My girl Melissa and I were escorted though the magnificent great room and out to a crowd of beauties ensconced around the candle lit pool. As we descended the stairs, I spotted my lovely friends, Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen. Always delighted to see them, I stopped for a kiss- kiss and to congratulate Alex on the opening of Second Time Around Consignment on Mott Street. Alex informed me that she, Simon (feeling better), and the kids will be heading to Australia for a few weeks for some family fun and some much need relaxation, but would be back in time for my birthday fete. Alex was promptly swept away by Plum TV for an interview, so Melissa and I attempted to make our way to attain a bevy or two.
An impermeable swarm enclosing the bar, we opted to catch a breather in the back yard. Of course there were others who had our idea, and who other but one of the hosts of the soiree, Mr. Lutz- being photographed and assessed by an earnest young journalist about Twilight, 90210, and his Social Life Magazine editorial spread with
socialite, Ms. Hearst. Not wanting to intrude, I noticed Devorah Rose, Editor-in-Chief of Social Life, observing her guests on the stairs. She immediately called me over, introduced herself to me and told me the charming young man next to her was going to be the next it actor... or so people keep stating (meeting Parker and commingling with him late-night, I believe they all may be on to something).
Ms. Rose, in a champagne color just above ankle silk dress, is more gracious and gorgeous than I ever could have expected. With a genuine smile and openness, we chatted a bit and she thanked me for attending. There is definitely something to be said for expectations and being pleasantly surprised. Ms. Rose singled out one of her ladies, leapt up to embrace her friend, and Melissa and I excused ourselves to continue our rounds.
We immediately passed Annalynne McCord of Nip/Tuck and 90210, in a cute denim romper, sipping H2O while conversing with a friend and there to support her 90210 co-star- Kellan Lutz, and fashion designer Allison Parris. Pausing to take in our surroundings and make a game plan to secure some vino rojo, we located Kelly Killoren Bensimon, NASCAR Development Driver Tim George Jr., and gossip blogger Micah Jesse.
After enjoying a private fireworks show, catching up with my good friend Arthur Mandel of Nolcha, and one last peek around the magnificent 10,000 square-feet abode- we decided it was time to meet up with our peeps and get ready to hit the dance floor at Axe Lounge.
July has proved to be off to a great start with the glam help of Social Life. And while I will not divulge how the evening progressed, I will mention that it included Leonardo DiCaprio, the Social Life crew, Kellan Lutz, a Real NYC Housewife's daughter, and 'you heard it from Ms. Rose first'- Parker.
