A Spring Fling: Moda Operandi
+
Okay, I know that it might be hard to think about wearing short silk dresses with nude stilettos while sipping mimosas when there's still snow on the ground but, you know what they say- "March goes in like a lion and out like a lamb." So lets just imagine a SPRING Fete, shall we?

It's Leather Weather!: Moda Operandi
+You name it, we'll be wearing it in Leather over the next few chilly months. Leather shirts, dresses, shorts, leggings... and more.... Think you can't pull it off....think again!
(Click the Pic to be directed to site)
Leather Dresses: Pair with opaque tights and suede platform heels to pull off a polished sophisticated look.
Leather Pants: Work it with an over-sized men inspired blazer and ankle boots for a chic edgy ensemble.
Leather Skirts: Ladies, the key to pulling this look off is HEIGHT- I'm talking 4-6 Inch skinny heels. Pair with any slouchy top (Think Kain White Muscle tee or over sized sweater)
Leather Shorts: You must be very careful to properly execute this look without appearing dumpy.... HEIGHT HEIGHT HEIGHT is once again key. Pair with sheer tights (unless you're going for short shorts then go for opaque tights), a cropped blazer or an elegant silk blouse. (Stilettos will elongate your legs so, if you don't have long skinny gams stay away from ankle boots instead opt for a pointy closed toe stiletto)
Leather Tops: Fitted leather tops should be paired with subtle loose fitting bottoms. If you're wearing a loose fitting leather tank/shirt pair with skinny pants/Jeans and ankle boots, over the knee boots or stilettos.

In Aisce: Moda Operandi
+
When it comes to clothing, fashionable women have it so much easier than our male counterparts. Think about it; we can walk into an upscale boutique, department store or order most of today’s fabulously futuristic frocks online from sites like net-a-porter, Forwardforward.com and Luisaviaroma.com. Labels such as Balmain, Gareth Pugh, Haider Ackerman, Phi and Rodarte are taking women into the ultramodern by cultivating a post apocalyptic fashion climate, but what about our men? Besides Helmut and Rick, what other options do our fashion forward fella’s really have? I've found a designer who I think just might be able to help level the playing field:
In Aisce: Gaelic translation- in vain.
Brooklyn based designer Jona, has cultivated a powerful, feral, and gilded new men’s collection in aisce. The line which launched in 2009, is inspired by history and war heroes as imagined in a world in the way far out future.
It’s no wonder why this new label is blowing up in Japan. The designs are raw, with asymmetrical cuts and details that are both unusual and wearable- a giant leap outside of the “commercial” men’s fashion box.
Jona hand constructs each one of his minimalistic pieces using top of the line leather and fabric, which is primarily sourced in the US. in aisce utilizes a cool and simple color palette consisting of black, white and grey, with a smattering of neutrals.
This collection is extremely sexy; laid back, but definitely does not lack sophistication. I have no doubt that we will be hearing a lot more about In Aisce in the not so distant future.

10/10 with JP Whitney: Peter Davis
+
I recently had the great privilege to sit down with my friend, Peter Davis, Editor of Paper Magazine and one of New York City's most stylish men, to ask him 10 questions about all things style. Here is what he had to say:
JP Whitney: What things influence your style?
Peter Davis: People and places: Fred Hughes, Mark Ronson, Tokyo, London, Big Sur, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, and of course- New York. The Mods are a huge influence.
JPW: What do you prefer: everyday street style or party primped?
PD: Street Style. NYC's best looks start and shine on the street and not in the front row of a fashion show or on a red carpet.
JPW: How does your City Style differ from your Hamptons Style?
PD: I only wear board shorts in the country. Whereas in NYC, I never wear board shorts.
JPW: What is your prized possession in your closet and what is your must have du jour?
PD: My tux that my tailor in London, Timothy Everest, made. Always looks good. A pair of black Loakes shoes which were a huge pain to order from London, but my favorite shoe.
JPW: Who are some of your favorite designers or labels?
PD: Martin Margiela, Rolex, Fred Perry, John Lobb, Thom Browne shirts, Vans slip-ons (have owned over 400 pairs), Michael Bastian blazers and tux jackets, vintage Helmut Lang, Bess NYC, and my tailor Timothy Everest is my style guru.
JPW: How did you get started in the magazine business?
PD: I was an intern at Paper in High school. I had blue hair.
I never wanted to be a writer or an editor. I studied painting in
college. I just loved Paper's whole vibe.
JPW: How do you take/react to negative press?
PD: Not well. I'm not a celebrity, so I'm always surprised that Page Six or Gawker makes up silly stories about me or slams me.
JPW: Is the Peter Davis we see on red carpets and at parties the
same Peter Davis that hangs out with family and friends?
PD: Red carpets scare me!! I don't have a good photo face down,
so I'm never red carpet ready. I need to have Mark Ronson give me some
lessons in looking cool!
JPW: What is on your wish list for the coming fashion season?
PD: Getting an editorial discount at Gucci, so I can load up on
mod style clothing.
JPW: Peter, it's been a pleasure chatting with you.
Before we wrap it up, tell me something most people don't
know about Peter Davis.
PD: I'm scared of sharks. I went scuba diving with Jaws-like sharks in Fiji, and it still haunts me.

Heart of the Hamptons Gala Kick-Off at The Plaza
+It was pouring rain Monday evening, but hearts were pouring out generosity (and bubbly) at The Plaza's Rose Club in anticipation of the 13th Annual Heart of the Hamptons Gala June, 20, 2009 at Hayground School, Bridgehampton, NY.
The dapper Stephen Adler, Chief Executive Officer of Charity Brands Consulting, his lovely daughter Alissa Adler, now heading up the Los Angeles branch of Charity Brands Consulting, and the effervescent Carter Cramer, Executive to the CEO of the New York office, hosted the Kick-Off event. The gathering generated meeting several of the Hamptons Heart Ball Committee and to gain awareness to the mission of the American Heart Association.
The beautiful young crowd dressed in Chanel, Helmut Lang, and Bruno Magl
i that filled the secluded bar, noshed on lobster cake sliders and popcorn while discussing this summer's anticipated events. Barbara Poliwoda, AHA Regional Director, and Mr. Adler enthusiastically worked the room, selling raffle tickets (with prizes worth up to $5000!) and hinting at the big surprises in store for the Hampton Gala- sorry, we have been sworn to secrecy for the time being...
Prior to the raffle drawing, two moving speeches were made. Mr. Adler, having been told he was going to die due to a heart murmur up until the age of 8, when a new doctor finally discovered that not only was nothing wrong with his heart, there never had been, motivated us to get involved and urged to become well-informed.
Jon Gruen, of Grueneyes and Gruen Foundation, shared his devastating personal experience about his son. In 1985, Mr. Gruen dropped his 15 1/2 year old son, Jason, at school. He watched him go through the front entrance, only to discover that was the last time he would see him. Jason collapsed, unexpectedly on the other side of the door, unaware that he had suffered from heart failure-related myopathy.
Had we had the knowledge, education and research that we do today, Jason would have just celebrated his 40th birthday.
Conclusion: A delightful and inspirational evening. Stay tuned for another gathering before the big bash and trust me- you won't want to miss it!
